Pend Oreille County is a county located in the U.S. state of Washington. As of 2000, the population was 11,732. The county seat is at Newport.
History
Pend Oreille County was created out of Stevens County on March 1, 1911. It is named after the Pend d'Oreilles tribe, whose name is French for "earring" (literally "hangs in the ear").
